Phone connections?

Hi
What phone connection would you recommened for a student new to the place?
I heard that prepaid or pay as you go is very expensive deal since you will be chrged for every incomin call.
Can you suggest a phone connection I can take in my name and one that does not require a credit history?

yes pay as go is very expensive but there is two types of pay as you go 1 as we use in Pakistan scratch card and the other one is like you pay $40 per month unlimited calls and text and no contract.....
