Hi,

I have not started the immigration process for my wife(will do imminently), and my kid is already Canadian, but they both live in the Philippines currently and will do until my wife get her immigration approved.

This is expected to take 10-18months, so with the current political situation in Philippines i was wondering what I can do to prepare for the worst?

If indeed, the new president were to declare "martial-law" in the next year, what should i do to maximize safety or speedup immigration?

Our immigration lawyer said that my wife would NOT be illegible to tourist-visa to Canada during the immigration process(she has no job or business)

Any opinion would be appreciated. Thanks

Your wife can certainly apply for a tourist visa but the visa will most likely be refused since CIC knows she likely has plans to remain in Canada long term. But again, you can certainly try.

There is no way to speed up the PR application process. So you should submit the application as soon as you possibly can and make sure the application is complete so that there are no processing delays.

Couldn't they move to a safe country during the PR application process?

You might as well start the application ASAP so that if the worst case scenario happens, you are ready. It's merely a distant possibility at the present, but even I won't totally discount it.

CIC has a history of expediting pending PR applications in the wake of certain humanitarian situations, like what they did for displaced typhoon victims in the Philippines, or earthquake victims in Nepal. I'm aware those are natural disasters, but I have reason to believe there's a chance they can also do so for Filipino PR applicants if the political situation comes to a head.
