In my admission letter for a PhD program it is stated that
I will receive a 4 year funding, and also that 'a limited number of TAships' might be appointed,
('Though we cannot guarantee you a TA position at the present time, I can say that a significant number of our PhD students who are eligible for TAships do get them during the course of their residency in the Department. You may also have opportunities to work as a paid Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) with one or more faculty members in the department during your program.'..)
As far as I remember TAships were not considered 'work' (needing a work permit etc.) so should I say no to this question? But then would it be necessary for Research Assistanships?
thank you
