PGWP Extension But Passport Expires Before April 2024

Hi everyone,

I'm sure everyone has seen the news where people with PGWPs expiring between October 2, 2022, to December 31, 2022 are able to extend their work permit/apply for a new one (link to news).

The criteria to be mailed a new open work permit is:

• your post-graduation work permit expires on or after October 2, 2022 and before December 31, 2022
• your passport is valid for at least 18 months after the expiry date of your post-graduation work permit

I only meet the first requirement since my work permit expires October 4, 2022 but my passport expires Feb 2024 which is only 16 months of validity after my PGWP expires and it's before April 2024. Due to this, I probably won't receive an open work permit by mail (link to news) in either round 1 or 2.

So do I just apply for an open work permit following the instructions here before round 2 is sent out?
