Hi everyone ,

I received my Post Graduate Work Permit on April 2013. It expires in April 2016. 17 months from now.

Now I have a job offer in BC and 17 months until my PGWP expires.

(The reason that I haven't started my job here in Canada yet is that I found a job in the US and have been waiting for the US visa until 2 months ago. But my visa didn't work out and now I'm back to Canada. The reason that I haven't applied for Canada PR yet is that I have been in Quebec and I didn't know French so I couldn't apply for PR.)

I studied M.Sc. in Computer Science at McGill.

Let's assume that I start my job in December 2014.

My questions are :

1.I know that I have to apply for PR. What is the fastest way to apply for a PR after I start my job in BC ? (considering that I've been studying in Quebec). FSWP , PEP , CEC ? How long do I have to wait to apply for each of these programs ? I don't have work experience here in Canada.

2.I read in CIC website that I can apply for Bridging Work Permit while waiting for my PR but I need to receive confirmation of PR eligibility. How long does it take to receive this confirmation after applying for PR ?

3.Do I need to tell my employer (I'm in process of receiving the job offer) that I may need visa extension some time in FUTURE ? it may risk my offer while I may never need their support for visa extension.

4.Is LMO application by employer costly ? is it something complicated ? is it usually done ?

5.How long my PGWP will be extended ? Is it long enough to receive my PR ?

Thanks in advance.

1. I believe your only options are CEC or BC PNP. You have to wait until you have one year of full time work experience before you can apply for CEC. I don't know about BC PNP.
2. I believe it takes 2-3 months.
3. I'm not sure it's necessary to tell your employer. You may not need an extension.
4. Yes - it's costly ($1K fee) and complicated. Some employers will do them and some won't.
5. You can't extend your PGWP. However you can apply for a closed work permit if you have an approved LMIA/LMO - or for the BOWP if you have applied for PR and have AOR.

Thank you Scylla for your reply ,

Let's assume that I start my job on December 15th 2014. It takes 1 year to be eligible to apply for CEC. So I will apply for CEC in January 2016.
It takes 3 months to receive the AOR (am I right?). So I will receive it on April 1st 2016.

But my PGWP expires on April 26th 2016. Is it enough time to apply for BOWP ?

I heard that I have to apply for BOWP 4 months before PGWP is expired.

Thanks
