Hi all!!
I'm wondering if I'm still eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) even though I've surpassed the 50% threshold for online classes (at around 55%). All my classes were taken in Canada, but the first half of my degree shifted online due to Covid, which makes up of 40% of all my credits (I began in September 2020). Additionally, about 15% of my total credits were completed voluntarily online. The 55% mentioned includes all courses but would fall below the 50% threshold if excluded from the calculation.
The PGWP website states:
"Distance learning from inside Canada:
If your courses were moved online due to the pandemic, the time you spend studying online from within Canada until August 31, 2024, still counts toward the length of your PGWP. However, it’s highly recommended that you attend in-class options when offered."
However, it also mentions that one is not eligible for the PGWP if they "completed the major part of a study program through distance learning (online courses, e-learning, or correspondence)."
I am set to graduate this coming semester (Winter 2024) and would love to obtain my PGWP. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If the 50% threshold still applies and renders me ineligible, should I consider taking an extra course (in-person) to adjust the threshold? The extra course will allow me to be in the clear.
Thank you again, and Merry Christmas!
