Hello,
The situation is as follows. I am graduating with my bachelors in June while on a study permit. I have not received my final grades or a letter of completion yet though.
I was planning to do a graduate degree in Canada, so I applied for a study permit extension on April 12. I was employed at two hospitals during the academic year, and I extended both of my contracts effective May 1 to August 31. However, I had not done any work for either hospital or been paid since then, as I am supposed to start working once I am back from vacation in early June.
A few days ago, I decided to do a graduate degree in the UK instead and hence requested to be placed on unpaid leave at both hospitals until June (I'm away on vacation anyway) so that I could apply for my PGWP since I am still interested in my two summer jobs.
I have not applied for my PGWP yet but I’m planning to do so and withdraw my study permit application on the day I receive the official letter of completion from my school.
Would being on unpaid leave instead of terminated jeopardize my PGWP application? Or am I legally in the clear, as I have an active study permit application which enables me to work even after receiving my final grades?
