Hi all! Been doing a lot of reading and searching trying to find all the answers to my questions. As always, so many of the threads are a lot of help. Just wanted to have all my ducks in a row, as I haven't been able to nail this down though, through my searches. Would greatly appreciate your help and wisdom.

So I'm a US citizen, spouse is a Canadian citizen (with US PR status as well). We're currently in Canada, she's working while I'm home helping out my in-laws due to their medical issues. We would both like to stay up here and decided to go Outland with much of the advice from here about US citizens going down that faster route.

1. That should be OK right? So long as I file for an extension once my 6 month visitor visa is up, then citing wanting to remain here with her while app is being processed?

and

2. What should I have listed under question 8, the Personal History portion of IM5669 for the present? Right now I have it listed as - FROM: date I crossed the land border (with no stamp), TO: Present, ACTIVITY: Aide to in-laws, CITY: Our current city of residence, STATUS IN COUNTRY: Visitor, NAME OF CO.: N/A. Will that fly for that question and also for the necessary visa extension?

Outland is the way to go. Get your FBI check started as that takes a long time.

As US citizen your travel should be fine, and if you decide to formally get your visitor status extended, you can do that to be on the safe side.

For 5669, I suggest you to list out your history all the way back to 18 years old and not 10 years (assuming you are old enough :)). The VO may ask you to do that, and that would mean a bit of delay in filling up a new form...plus when you fill in your new form and you forgot what you put down in the first place (no retained copy), then that's another risk.

You are technically a visitor in Canada during this period of time. I would suggest you put "unemployed: visiting spouse's family and traveling" or something to that effect, any implication of you having some type of work or real function can be sensitive. Residence details in Section 12 should match up to Section 8 of your history. Consistency, no gaps, logical.

Be prepared to show your ties back home in the US, in particular to border officers who needs you to demonstrate that you have reasons (still have a home, back account, affairs to settle, family commitments, other commitments, etc.) to go back to the US until you formally become a PR. Dual intent...a tricky thing.

Hi

1. Yes, you will need to apply to extend your visitor status prior to your 6 months finishing. Include proof of finances and proof of the PR app and you should have no issues.

2. Bad idea to put that, as it sounds like you are working. "Visiting family" is perfectly fine.

What exactly do you mean by Aid to In-laws? Be very careful what you write because that could be considered working. Canadians can't wrap their heads around the fact that family members help each other for free, and they think that if you are "helping" someone, then you are definitely getting paid. And unless you have a valid open work permit, that can be a red flag. To avoid potential confusion and unnecessary questions from CIC, just write "Unemployed" or "Travelling" since you are on a visitor visa.

Thank you all for answering my questions. I did all of the suggested changes and have added more on a supplemental form to be attached, I hope that's ok, going all the way back to age 18 (I'm just barely over, I'm 31 Cheng9999 ;D)

Now with the "Visiting family" & Visitor as my current and to be continued status, will that be an issue at all for the Outland app as well as when it comes time to extend my visa? Certainly wouldn't mind going home to visit friends but I pretty much planned on staying here until everything is approved because I'm afraid to raise any flags/issues crossing the border. For reference, I still have a bank account open and my registered vehicle with ins, all valid there.
