Hello,

I requested a TRV + Study permit on may-28 and my study permit was issued on aug-11. I am enrolled in a full time master program in a public funded university.

My question is regarding what is the procedure to get the authorization to work off-campus because my study permit conditions are:

- Unless authorized, prohibited from engaging in employment in Canada.
- May accept employment on campus.

I have been offered a Teaching Assistant contract but I need my SIN# to get paid. As far as I know, to get my SIN# I must get either a work authorization letter or a study permit that states "may work in Canada". Also, I would like to find a off campus part time job when my TA ends.

What should I do? I am really confused!

Do I have to cross the border again to get a new study permit?
Do I have to submit a specific inquiry to CIC to get my off campus work authorization letter?
Is there any other work around?

THANKS!!!

Yes indeed you need to submit a case specific inquiry to get Confirmation letter to work.
Here is the link. Select Confirmation letter to work off campus and submit LOA.

After when you receive the email, print the letter and take it to nearest Canada Service along with SP and they will issue SIN within 10 mins

How long do you think is going to take for receiving this letter? I sent the inquiry already.

Depends.. it took me 15 business days

hi rrrrbradley , u don't need the confirmation letter . i have the same thing written on my study permit .

cos your study permit was written u may take employment on campus just work into service canada office and get your SIN ,
i got my sin without any letter of confirmation two weeks after i got to canada , my permit was issued june 23....

u only need confirmation of work if your study permit was written can not work in canada ....

if your are already in canada just got get your permit right away .

I had almost an exact same case with you. My study permit was approved around mid April, and I got the study permit issued upon point of entry on 16-Aug-2014. And I have the same items written on my study permit .

I don't think u need the confirmation letter to get the SIN#, because I got the SIN# without the confirmation letter.

However, since my study permit was written "unless authorized, prohibited from engaging employment in Canada", I was suggested that it'd better to get a confirmation to work off-campus before starting any employment with the employer.

That is 100% correct! I couldn't update this thread, but last week I received my SIN# without the confirmation letter. However, in my SIN# letter itself states that we must present the confirmation letter because my study permit starts with 9.

Thank you all for your help!!!!
