I am an immigrant from the United States. I married a Canadian and lived in the USA for 4 years before deciding to come to Canada. I filed in Canada on July 10, 2009.

THE FOLLOWING READS ON MY FILE WHEN CHECKING APPLICATION STATUS FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCY:

We received your application for permanent residence on July 10, 2009.

We started processing your application on August 7, 2009.

Medical results have been received.

We transferred your application to the Etobicoke office on January 11, 2010. The Etobicoke office may contact you.

As you can see i have been waiting seven months for Approval in Principal and permission to work. It has been a month since the file was sent to Etobicoke. I still have heard nothing from anyone!

Can someone, anyone, help me with a solution or at least an explanation? Please?

I am assuming that you are sponsored by your Canadian spouse. If that is the case, it should be very fast.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/05-fc-spouses.asp#west

If you are already in Canada you can call the call center

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/contacts/call.asp

One other thing you can do is go to http://www.caips.ca/ and request case notes, so that you can see your case status.

Re: Permanent Residency Application

It has been seven months since i applied for permanent residency, any idea how much longer it will be ?

How long until i hear from the Etobicoke office since they now have my file?.............how much longer before i get approved in principal?

I did all this from within Canada............

What this means is that your file was transferred to your local CIC office, which apparently is Etobicoke. You should at some point be hearing from them. They might want to set up an interview. You are applying inland, so do know that it does take a while that way, 12-18 months or longer from what I hear. So you seem to be on schedule.
