Hi all,

I have a very basic query. If I get a permanent resident status, along with my spouse (secondary applicant), do I need a separate work permit, for a job?
I checked on the CIC website, but did not get clarity on this.
If anyone has idea about this, will appreciate the response. Further, if possible, please provide an official link, stating that permanent residents do not require a work permit (if that is the case).
Thanks in advance :)

You do not need WP If you get a PR. PR will give your residency status allowing you to live and work without any further permits.

A permanent resident does not need a separate work permit as they are entitled to live and work permanently in Canada as long as they continue to meet the residency obligation of living 2 years of every 5 years in the country. As new PRs you will need to apply for PR cards and SINs for employment/social purposes which can do as soon as you land but thats it , no separate work permit

Thanks.

I hope I can rely on this line from the website.

"As a permanent resident, you have the right to:
  • ...
  • live, work or study anywhere in Canada,
  • ...
"

Btw, after getting a PR card, do they distinguish between primary and secondary applicant? I mean there is there any restriction on my spouse, who gets a PR card as a secondary applicant?

NO restrictions. Both are PR holders.
