Hey Guys
I was wondering, what is the difference between a PR Visa and a PR status?

Are we accorded the "Permanent resident Status" after landing or will we seek a new "permanent residence status" everytime we enter Canada with a valid PR card or COPR after we landed?

PR Visa is just a single entry Visa. The day you complete landing, that visa has no significance and is invalid. Its only used to enter Canada as the first time as a Permanent Resident. From then on you should be entering canada on your PR card. That is what signifies that you are a Perment Resident of Canada.

and PR status is something everyone has to maintain (PR holder). TO maintain that status you need to be physically present in Canada every 5 years. WHenever you renew your PR card, you will need to prove the govt that I was there in Canada for at least 2 years in the last 5 years (from the date you apply for renewal).

Also, you become a PR not by just getting the visa. its a visa that just lets you enter. You become a PR when you complete all the formalities while landing for the first time on that visa.

Hope that helps,!
