no, but Canadian permanent resident ; "not from visa exempt country" require a visa for USA ( changed after 911 )

persons lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence who are in possession of their alien registration card (Green card) or can provide other evidence of permanent residence;

no need for canadian visa. just keep your greencard and passport with you while travelling. i guess if crossing the border by road passport is not necessary but by airplane you do need the passport as well.
