permanent resident card can be sent outside Canada?

I will soon be landing in Canada as a permanent resident but will not stay long enough to receive the PR card. Is it OK for my friend to send it to my home country after it is received? And can I use it to return to Canada after about six months? Is there any checking of PR card or passport etc while leaving Canada?
