Peace Bridge Landing

hi everyone, my husband and stepkids received their landing papers in the mail yesterday (it only took a week which is pretty good considering Christmas and New Years happened in between), and we're planning their landing for the end of the month. they'll land at peace bridge in fort erie. so i have a few questions to help get us ready...

1. do my stepkids need any other permission from their mother to land? with the PR application we sent all the necessary things CIC would need from their mother saying she was okay with them immigrating to Canada and we were never asked for anything additional, now they have COPRs in hand. but occasionally at the border when they come to visit, an agent will ask my husband for a signed letter of consent from the kids' mom, so we've just gotten in the habit of having her sign a new short letter every time they come to visit just in case. are they going to need this to land as well or is that implied with the COPRs?

2. my husband is not bringing a car with him and we don't want to rent an entire uhaul truck for the move. he doesn't have enough things to warrant the expense. instead what we'd like to do is load up my father-in-law's pickup and trailer hitch and have my in-laws drive with my husband and stepkids across the border. my in-laws would be visiting for a couple of days before saying goodbye...is it going to be a problem to have them all in one truck, half of the people landing, half of them visiting?

3. we're going to be packing a lot of things this weekend and filling out the itemized forms. does anyone have any pointers for how we should fill out the forms, label boxes and/or general organization?

4. ...and anything else we should know for landing? I have a general idea based on what i've read around the forum, but any personal experiences would be helpful...maybe things you wish you had known before?

1. no i don't think so. the reason they need this when they are visiting is because the kids are entering as visitors and CBSA wants tto know the mother gives permission to let them travel for an extended length of time. their "permission" to do this as a pr is their approval paper (COPR). I don't think it's necessary for them to have anything else.

2. no problem at all. your inlaws will just have to wait around until they are done with landing and goods declaration.

3. group like items together and give them values for the lot. no need to provide details - 2 boxes of books, 1 box of kitchen items is all that's needs. if you have jewlery that's appraised (other than any you are wearing), then list them separately, otherwise it can all be lumped together and given a value. you don't have to claim jewelry you are wearing (ie: wedding jewelry), put serial numbers for electronics, make sure to have 2 forms if you have goods to follow... 1 for goods you have with you, 1 for goods to follow. if you intend to import the car at a later date, make sure it's listed under conveyance on the good to follow form. bring 2 copies of each just in case (the copy machine at the border i was at was broken, so luckily i had 2 copies to use!)

4. the anticipation is more stressful than the actual experience. congrats!
