I spent just over 6 months each in Spain, Italy, and Sweden in the last 10 years. So I will need to get the equivalent of the police clearance certificates from these 3 countries. The last time I was in those countries for extended periods of time was over 8 years ago.

1. Sweden seems to be the easiest, as an email with a scanned copy of the required form, and your proof of id - not mentioned whether this will be legalized.
2. Spain - the process seems straightforward, except for the legalization part and the fact that it is Spain and maybe the document gets lost somewhere on the way. The certificate will be in Spanish
3. Italy - will require two certificates - will be in Italian, not sure whether legalized

I understand that the documents not in English or French needs to be translated to either of those two languages. But I am uncertain, even after reading the forum, or the official CIC site regarding the legalizations of the certificates.

Can I get the Italian and Spanish certificates to my home country and get it translated for cheaper ? I asked an agent for costs wrt to the Spanish certificate, and they quoted aroudn 450 EUR (actual cost is around 4 EUR for the certificate alone) for the same, including legalizations, translations, legalization of the tranlsation, and then again a certification by the Canadian Embassy in Madrid. An Italian agent was quoting around 300 EUR (actual cost is around 20 EUR/certificate) for procuring the certificate and then doing a translation without the Apostille.

My question is whether I need to do all of this. Can I just get the certificates through the official way and then get it translated in India by a good translator and then upload the certificates and their translations when asked for? Has someone done this without all the legalizations?
