PCC in NY CGI

Hi - quick question. I have applied for the pcc in NY CGI. Since there is no walk ins or appointments, I sent the docs via mail.

I got them sent back to me asking me to send back with original passport. Would anyone recommend or advice what needs to done. As I have my concern as to whether i should send my original passport via mail. I already sent a copy of it with public notary.

Thanks - any idea how long it might take? I have 30 days left. In the cic site it says you dont have to reach out for extension and it happens automatically. Again I have my doubts if it would get extended automatically?

Used to take about 15 days before COVID.
