You should only apply for PCC after you leave the country

For countries in which the applicant no longer resides, the police certificate must have been issued after the last time the applicant stayed in that country for 6 months or more in a row.

My visit to India will now be two months, which means I can get PCC while I am there for the period I have stayed more than 183 days previously. Am I correct?

Since you have received the PCC request now you have to provide IRCC the PCC up to a certain window of time they would have mentioned. They likely are asking this because you did not provide them the PCC with your citizenship application for a previous stay in India which was 183 days or more.

PCC is applied for a country after you have left the country. Imagine a scenario, you apply and get a PCC from India in October (all clear etc) and then in November some unfortunate incident happened in India where police booked a case against you etc, then in that scenario the PCC received in Oct will it still be valid ?

So in your case best would be apply for PCC through BLS, submit your PCC to IRCC and then travel to India.

Maybe others can also chime in @forw.jane

Hi, What did you do for this?

I did PCC from India and the process is quite straightforward. Just fill up simple form and get the appointment at a nearest passport seva kendra. Police verification happens immediately after that - if you don't butter up then 3 weeks. If you do then it comes in a week.

You can do PCC from India. Doesn't matter. IRCC just want to check criminal records. PCC issue date and purpose is mentioned on the letter that is issued. So if it is too old then IRCC will ask for a recent one.

PCC through BLS if it triggers police verification sucks. It's too slow and you need to send your family/friend to the police station to move it fwd. After the last 183+ day of travel, PCC from India will work too. My friend did the same.

Hi @mickymots

I am filing the online application for the PCC from India to save time before going there.

Could you please help me with what to select for the Present Address and Permanent Address?

I think the Present Address should be my Indian address since I will be there.
What about the Permanent Address? Should it still be my Indian address or my Canadian address?

I have my Indian address on my Aadhaar card, which I can take.
My old passport has the Indian address, but my new passport has a Canadian address.

What should I mention for the addresses, and what documents should I provide as proof?

Address on passport doesn't matter as long as you can provide Indian address as the present address and permanent address proof. Just keep things simple and mention this is where you live.

This is from my own experience as the passport has Toronto address but PCC was done based on Aadhaar address.

Also, PCC doesn't have a address mentioned on it. It simply has 3 lines stating, Person XYZ with passport no. 124 issued at ABC has no adverse information that would render him/her ineligible for Citizenship / Nationality for Canada.
