Did PCC for me and my wife. Make this as your top priority post-ITA.
You'll generally read from most write-ups online that police verification won't be done if your passport address matches your current address. That doesn't seem to be true now.
Me and my wife both changed the passport addresses < 1 month before applying for the PCC. Still we had to go through police verification step. You will be looking at ~8 days to get your PCC in hand.
We got our verification done from Ramamurthy Nagara police station. Our turnaround time was 7 days.
Please make it a point to mark the NEAREST police station in your application. Else, around ~3 days will be added for inter-police station transfer.
The nitty gritty steps of how to approach the PSK are written here : https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/complete-guide-how-to-get-pcc-from-bangalore-psk-sai-arcade.467368/post-5678028. Only the part about 1.5-2hr turnaround time wasn't true for us.
The application route is :
PSK to local police station - instantaneous transfer
local police station to commissioner's office - this might take long. Police generally do transfers in batches. example : On a Monday
commissioner's office to RPO - this might take long
RPO to your home - ~2 days
Some pro tips
- Pay the police if he asks; for the peace of mind and for the leverage to ask for status of your application. Trust me, this is not the ethical battle you want to win.
- You can go to the police station before you receive the call from them. It's fine.
- Call https://portal1.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/rpo/rpoPages/rpoBangalore/bangaloreRPO.html# 080-25706100 for status. You will have to call this number a good 50 times for someone to pickup. You can ask your overall status at the RPO.
