Hi Team,

I was working in Canada for around 1 year, then came back to my home country. Right now, I have applied PR under CEC category and got the invitation. Do I need to obtain PCC from Canada?
If so please let me know the process.
Regards,
Davidel.

No, you do not need a PCC from Canada. You need a PCC from every other country EXCEPT Canada that you have lived in for a cumulative total of 6 months. So at a minimum, you will need the PCC from your home country.

Hi, I have heard that this year they have begun requesting Canadian Police Certificates from many people, not all, but just to be safe it may be a good idea to get one. Regardless they will ask you for it, so you can supply it later.

SIGH. So the deal is, IRCC automatically conducts name-based checks for ALL applicants. That is why no PCC is required upfront.

If the name-based check is clear - no criminal record found - then that is done.

However, in the event that a record turns up - let's say you have the same name as someone else with a criminal record - then and only then will IRCC request a fingerprint-based RCMP check, to differentiate you from the person with the criminal record. If you have a very common name, this is more likely to happen.

There is nothing new about this.

In my opinion, there is absolutely no reason to do the RCMP check without waiting for a request. There is one scenario where it might make sense - you know you have a common name, you are currently IN Canada (where it is easy and fast to get the RCMP check done), but you are leaving Canada soon.
