I have 5 years of experience in same company, i got reference letter from my manager which provide detail of responsibilities about my present job, annual salary, joining date etc, but also list past job titles that i had in same company, start and finish date for each job title but description for the past job title is not mentioned.

Do you think such letter will be good enough?

Please advice.

I think this would be good enough. If your present job title fulfills the requirements of CIC, you do not need to give full job descriptions of your previous roles in the same company. Only job titles will do. However, if you present job title does not fulfill the requirements of CIC, but one of your previous roles does, you would be better off giving full description of that job titles that closely relates to the requirements of CIC.

Thanks for reply...

just want to say that my present job title and last job title both falls in same category of NOC, I submitted my application in July, and soon after submitting the application i got promoted to new level, now if I count experience in current job title, its only 8 months... however responsibilities are the same with some extra work that I was assigned in new job role.

Please advice.

Thanks

I would advise you to mention that in your cover letter along with your application. This way you do not need to give full job descriptions of any of your previous roles. However, do mention the titles of your previous roles in the experience letter. Just my opinion. May be some senior member would be able to guide you better.

Thanks again,

I have mentioned all of my previous job title along with their start / end date, including current job title last 4 job titles were in same department(geoscience) apart from the first job title which was in operation department of the company, from 2005 till present I am working in geoscience department and progressing in the same department with similarity in job roles description with some additional duties each time you move up.

Any senior member who can advice on this.... plz

thanks

They should not read your letter and think that your relevant job was only held for 8 months.

Sounds like the ministerial instruction criteria is filled using this job. If that is the case, they may think (not will) that you have only done the ministerial instruction main duties for 8 months. Only you can read the letter and say whether it gives that impression or not.
If that is the case, you don't want them to think that you have done these duties for 8 months only because then you won't get in. Sounds like you have done it for longer, just under a different title.

If that is the case (where they may think that you have done the duties for 8 months only), you should do whatever is necessary to make sure they don't think that. That could be writing a letter or getting another letter from your manager, etc. If it is writing a letter, it may work, but I would think CIC would rather have a letter from your manager. I don't know how CIC looks at it when you send a letter yourself.

Thanks for reply..

Letter that i have received from CIC states, that i have been selected based on the minister instructions for new immigrants as my past job falls in shortlisted NOC list and i had experience of more than one year in that job title, but soon after submitting application i got promoted to new job title, and main responsibilities are same plus some new responsibilities assigned....

reference letter from my manager states responsibilities based on current job title and i was performing same responsibilities in old job title as well. NOC number for my previous job role and current job role is same as per responsibilities... i am not sure about reference letter that i have got will be good enough to make me survive

any advice...

when you read the letter, does the letter from your manager state specifically that the job duties are for your current job.
Is it believable when you look at the titles that your job duties would be for both.

For example, if i moved from being a teaching assistant to a professor, then it would not be believable that my professor job has the same duties as my teaching assistant job.

On the other hand, if i move from manager to senior manager, then it is believable that the job duties that CIC is looking for is found in both.

The best is always to get another letter from your manager to say that your duties were the same in both jobs but if you can't get that, then you have to do with what you have and that is to write a letter.

I have no experience in this, so I am just telling you as what I would do if i were in your situation, so you would have to think what is best for you.

Reference Letter that i got from my manager states old job history with the company but no description for old job only start & end, only present job role description and responsibilities are mentioned even though my responsibilities in past and now are more or less same as there is no big difference and both have same NOC ...
Following is my employment history...

currently working as Geoscientist -
Staff Geotechncian - 2007
Senior Geotechncian -2006
Geotechnican - 2005
Junior Field Engineer - 2004

:(

So when you read it, does it seem like it is believable the responsibilities are the same for geoscientist and staff geotechnician. I would think it is ....without knowing exactly the job. I would send a letter written by yourself at least. At best, get a letter from your old manager to say your responsiblities.

If i prepare employement history letter on company letter head with job description of each job role, do i need to get it signed from my manager or ccopmany stamp is enough??? as getting it signed from my manager ............. not easy

i had the same manager in the past
