Hi,

The issue I am facing with is that both my kids PR Visa were stamped in the Canada consulate on Feb 24th 2010 with validity upto 10th June 2010(1 yr expiry of our medicals) however the passport is expiring on the 4th of August 2010. I am planning to renew their passports in Chicago but the question is do I complete the landing on the old passport or Renew the passport (A new passport with new number will be issued) and do the landing on the New passports? will the landing with New passport create any issues / complications?

Any suggestions would help.

Thanks forum members in advance.

Hi there,
if passport is expired and got visa on it, u can still use the visa and keep passport attached to the new one. very simple solution, you can double check this on cic web site.

Romford is correct

Hi Romford,

I am aware that even if the passport expires all the valid visa's in that passport do not till their validity date, but my question is do I do the landing on the old passport(passport will be stamped Landed) or get the new passport and then do the landing in which case I would need to update the info to CIC (will this create any confusion) even before I do the landing.

Well your Visa is expiring in June and passports in August. So whats the problem? You need to use you Visa before your new passport. Or am I Missing something here?

Hi Blueboy,

You didn't get the point, I am aware that passport expiry is after my PR Visa expires but just looking into the option if I can get a new passport before completing the landing or after as I anyways need to apply for new passport immaterial of Landing.

That 'confusion' u foresee might pretty much crop up. I'd suggest, go for the 'landing' with the same Pp & renew it while at Canada.

If u do decide to renew with a *new booklet, do not forget to intimate CHC about it, lest u get into unnecessary trouble/s.

*Although it is NOT necessary to get a new booklet, the consulates can 'extend' the same pp for 3 yrs. with a 'renewal stamp'. It is called "Revalidating the Pp".

Qorax.

You can definitely land there and apply for the new passport in the local passport office/Consulate of your country. I don't think you can renew your passport before the current ones expire. So, you have no option but to land in Canada first and then worry about renewing the passports.

Hi Blueboy,

I can renew the passport 1 year before expiry, but anyways after reading the suggestions provided I am thinking of Landing with the current passport which has the PR Stamp on it and then by July / August apply for the new passport and update CIC with the new passport number.

Thanks to all for your inputs.
