Probably depends on your passport, i.e. from which country it is. Not sure, but standard is 6 months or more..

If your passport is not expiring in 6 months, then apply. Please note that at the LAST stage in the CIC application, when they ask for your passport, they even mention "if your passport is expiring soon, then apply for a new passport, and send us the new passport".

So, your passport expiration is NOT a major concern. CIC will ask for a new passport if they feel like. So, apply with your existing passport if it has atleast 6 months validity.

When, you send your new passport, please do send the old one too stapled behind the new one, so that they can have a look at both the passports.

Hi
If passport has super visa on it, and we re-new the passport, is still visa office transfer super visa to new passport?

You just need to carry old passport and new passport. Visa in old passport is valid. I am not certain if Canada follows this principle. US does. They carry forward the balance of visa period to new Passport at the request of individual. How ever, cost involved for such transfer is as good as for the new visa itself irrespective of the transferrable time.
