Hi

can anyone pls. asvise...my Indian passport expires in around three months and my PR is expected in around two months time. very narrow gap.. should i apply for the renewal or wait to hear from CIC. what are the pros n cons.

does the visa office already have your passport?

generally, i believe the visa office will require the passport to have a validity of 6 mo. or more to issue the visa, so my guess is if it's close to expiring, they won't issue the visa until a new passport is issued. if they don't currently have your passport, then i would recommend getting a new one issued as soon as possible.

Another question is can you actually get a new passport before your current one expires? In my country you cannot unless you changed your name etc...

Canadian passports you can. You're not really supposed to use it for travel if there is less than 6 months left on it, so it is recommended to renew it at that time. I've always renewed my passport around the 6 month remaining mark.

I guess it depends on the country then :)

Did you already send your passport to the VO? How long does it take to renew your current passport?
