Passport requested but no update on CIC

Hi all

I applied under Family Class Sponsorship to sponsor my wife from India to Canada. Recently they asked for her to submit her passport to them. She sent it via a courier company and asked for a stamp on delivery. She got the stamp on delivery confirmation e-mail but no update from CIC. Is that normal? The update CIC has posted under her application is "application is received" but no indication whether they received the passport or where they stand. The status has been "application is received" for over a month now since I first sent in the application to CIC-M.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes after that for them to look at the application and what the procedure is? Plus no update on whether they received the passport, is that normal?

Any indication would help.

Thank you

NDVO doesn't confirm/reply when they receive passport or any document. Your delivery stamp is the best assumption that they got it, they also ask for Passports at a very early stage and the sequence goes from Application Received to Medical Received and then if they don't require any other doc, it's

App Received
Meds Received
Decision Made

If at any stage they require more docs, then its possibility it will says IN-PROCESS, all ecas doesn't go to IN-PROCESS

Hang around ND 2012, 2013 threads where people follow other posts and get more answers and you can ask more questions too. Your thread question is the most basic which you could have figured out after visiting those threads

ALSO, someone can correct me if I'm wrong... but doesn't the NDVO request passport at the beginning? You said you sent the application in a month ago to CIC-M? That means you've not even gotten the first stage completed. You've got a ways to go and CIC won't contact you about anything unless they need something from you - though most of us WISH they would notify us about receiving things and status, they just don't.

That said, with the NDVO it does not work the way it does with other VO's where the passport is requested and within a month or so you're in.

I am unsure the processing time currently for NDVO, but there is likely many months ahead. I'm going through Ottawa processing for outland application for the states and my application has been in 7 months now and still shows application received on ecas.

I don't know why NDVO requests passports in the beginning, but I've seen it confuse a lot of people into thinking they are approved.

I hope I did not misunderstand your post, but if I understood correctly, then I hope I helped.

Thanks for your message. Actually I sent it to CPC-M and it was forward to India afterwards. About a month after, my spouse received an email from the Indian High Commission and they were requesting for her passport. I have heard from people that it takes about 120 days after that initial request for things to get completed (depending on how simple/complex your case is). What the truth is, I won't know until she gets her visa.

Yeah, the NDVO requests passport at the start after sponsorship approval in CPC-M so it's still got the entire second stage process to go through.

Praying for a speedy processing for you!

There is no time frame that they start processing files once they receive the passport. People who have submitted their passport in February still have yet to see "in process." And with the strike right now, nothing is guaranteed. The processing times are 10 months for 80% of cases according to the processing times on the CIC website for New Delhi. That is all we have to go on. If NDVO was ahead of the game a few months ago they have now fallen way behind with the strike. If you go to the New Delhi 2013 thread you'll see on the spreadsheet that the Visa office just started January 2013 files and many 2012 files still not yet done either. So you have a ways to go. I am feb 2013 applicant- my husband submitted passport april 28 2013, and we have yet to hear anything.

Hey Kiri
It's actually in the second stage already. The whole package was sent from CPC-M to India. It was the people in the second stage that requested the passport from my wife.

I know someone who was an applicant and her passport was requested in March and she got her passport with a visa within 120 days. The strike is going to end next week from what I heard on the Punjabi news station. But where did you read the 80% figure?
