Hi everyone,
Here is my situation. I'm a visitor in Canada and want to apply for a study permit. As known, I have to apply from outside of Canada, so I chose my country of origin, Taiwan (a visa exempted country), to apply online. After two weeks, today I received a letter of requesting my passport. As instructed in IRCC website, I need to submit my passport to a visa application center in Taiwan. I then checked this VAC website and called them for asking some questions. Surprisingly, they told me I should not be requested to provide a passport because I hold Taiwanese passport with the national ID on it and Taiwan is a visa exempted country. They asked me to respond to the officer to tell them this for clarifying this matter. Most importantly, the VAC guy even said they wouldn't accept to transfer my passport to the visa office even if I send it to VAC. I was stunned and really confused. Does anyone have experience about passport request for a visa-exempt country? Even if VAC guy is correct, how do I "correct" an IRCC officer? Please help, thank you all so much!
