Passport Replace / Embassy want proof of legal status

Hello,

i have some kind of an issue.

I'm German, my passport was stolen, i try to get a new one, to stay in Canada for about 6-12 month and then travel to the USA after that.

So i need the real passport that allows me that, not a return-document to Germany.

They asked for a Document that proof my legal status.

I arrived in Canada as Tourist on the Visa-Free Program.

Where do i get that? And how is it called?

I guess the Germany embassy or consulate should tell you what documents you should get and how to get it. Maybe get it mailed by family member from Germany?

Nothing from Germany, i got everything that proofs my citizenship.

But they were very unhelpful, they said, contact CIC for a verification.

But all the forms online are so confusing.

It's unfortunate that they are so unhelpful to their own citizens but I have had a similar bad experience in Frankfurt from customs there. I am not German - anyhow, I guess it's most of the beauracrates that work this way...

The German embassy and consulates in Canada are very useless as they post no information on lost passports but this is all I found out:

ok cool i try that, i hope they accept it.

I'm legal here, but i don't understand why this is a reason to "delay" a passport application. I'm still a german citizen, very frustrating, in the meantime they leave me without any id. I can only renew my hotel room, because when i have to switch the hotel, they need to see my ID, which i don't have.
