can someone please verify.my wife is main applicant,from vietnam.the photocopy of her passport does not need to be translated or notarized.is this true?also my canadian passport photocopy does not need to be notarized? Thanks.

Correct, unless her country-specific checklist explicitly asks for it.

In some countries, other than local language, they do have English followed. So if you have such a passport, there is no need to translate English to English. You need to notarized the photocopies of your passport though. Without notarization, how can VO be certain that is coming from an authentic passport? Now it leads to another issue, that notarization is highly likely in local language, you then need to translate it. So if you can find a lawyer office/notary public that can notarize/certify and translate to English, go for it, just make sure it is well known.
When in doubt, spend a little more effort to do it right.
