Dearest Immi Specialists!

Huge concern here:
My German passport expires end of next year, I am applying for a new IEC category visa soon.
With this new visa I want to re-enter Canada early next year, but it says at the IRCC website that my new visa will only be valid until the expiry of my passport, which is super upsetting and will shorten my stay dramatically.

Can I add information whilst applying for my new IEC visa that I will apply for my new passport within my time here in Canada? Currently in Canada and documents for German passport application in Germany. Before all the paperwork gets here and the appointment at sthe consulate here in Canada, then shipping overseas and all, we are talking months in total. So there is unfortunately no chance to get the passport any quicker. And I will have to use my current passport for the new working visa.

I would like to convince the IRCC to give my full 12 months non-regarding the expiry of my passport. I could also include an immigration lawyer into this process? Or ideally just do it by myself. Will a genuine statement be possible / considered at all if I update IRCC with my new passport?

Help would be so much appreciated, thanks so much!
:)

First do not waste money with a lawyer as will make no difference other you being poorer.

Others can comment but I read the passport validity requirement being for when you land and the work permit is issued not for when you apply other than should still be valid at that time

So when you land passport must be valid beyond your stay, health insurance for the duration and access to 2500 CDN. Until you land to take up the IEC you just get a POE letter with a must use by/ land by date, only when you land is the permit validity determined. Any way that’s my personal interpretation.

Don't bother with the lawyer. Lawyers can't change immigration rules.

Start the new passport application asap and make sure you have the new passport before you activate your new IEC. That's really your only option for getting the full length of the IEC.

You don't need to have the new passport at the time you enter the IEC pool - just when you go to the border and activate the IEC.

Thanks to you both! @Bs65 & @scylla - You really rock.

Passport Validity:
Yeah that´s the prob, next appointm. with German consulate is in mid-Jan, then 4-8 weeks passport delivery to Canada (ouch!). The IEC pools open with a bit of a delay, but any week now, so I´ll have to enter my current passport´s digits. Then end of February IF I got the new passport it won´t be linked but I can then explain immigration at the POE this is my new one blah, I assume?

Again, I think I will not make it re: passport for the end of Feb (ouch).

Scenario:
If, during my stay with the activated new IEC visa already back in Canada, I contact the IRCC telling them:
"Heyyyyy you guys, got a new passport, please use this one - doesn´t expire for another 10 years." - is there a chance at all they might consider this and then change the expiry date to the full 12 months?

I guess it makes no sense to inform them during my new IEC application, or might be beneficial to give them this information?
Sry for all my questions here :)!

You need to have the new passport at the time when your new IEC visa is activated at the border if you want to be given the full duration of the visa. Assume no exceptions are possible. So IMO there is absolutely zero chance they will consider extending the expiry date later (i.e. after the visa is issued). The rules don't allow for this and IRCC follows their rules. If you have a break between your current IEC and your new - then consider spending some time in Germany to renew your passport. I assume the process would be substantially faster if you do it there.

I am so thankful there are people like you with such knowledge out there. This is such an interesting field to be in.
Yes, agreed, then it might be best solution to try to be in Germany as long as possible and get the passport whilst in Germany.

To summarize:
Even in my application form for the IEC, which I will have to do with my current passport, and I enter at the POE with a brandnew passport in let´s say March, different passp.no. etc. the IRCC will just "overwrite" old pass with new passport and link the visa to the new passport? So no complications there?

THANK you so much :), @scylla -
Much appreciated.

Hello & Good Night/Good Day,

So if I go with my second IEC, which I will do with my current passport, and I enter at the POE with a brandnew passport, in let´s say March, different passp.no. etc. the IRCC will just "overwrite" old pass with new passport and link the visa to the new passport? So no complications there? Very interested how this works :).

Night night from Vancouver.
