Hi everyone,

I'm planning on applying from outland, family class sponsorship. I'm trying to sponsor my wife. However, her passport expires in May 2014. Is it worth applying next month (that's when I'll have everything ready). Or will it cause problems and delay the application if her passport is going to expire so soon.

Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

It would make a lot of sense to renew the passport now, and then apply.
Most countries allow a renewal to be initiated a few months early, for situations such as this.

I'm in the same situation however I sent my application off at the start of January, my passport also expires in May 9th.

I am going to get it renewed ASAP then send a photocopy of my new passport.

I think its better off to do it all before hand though.

Agreed. It can be done either way, but if the turnaround time for a new passport is 4 weeks or less, as it is here in Canada, then renew it now . . . and be done with it. My wife renewed her passport 2 years early, just so it would bear her married name when submitting our application. I also thought it could only "help" our application to have her name changed already.
