Hi everyone,

I recently sponsor for my family member to apply for Super Visa.

However, I forgot to tell her to renew her passport to get the maximum length of Super Visa ( 10 years)

As a result, she only received 5 years visa ( expired as the same as her passport, which is 2020)

Can she get a new passport and re-applied immediately this year to get the full 10 years ( expired on 2024)

Please give me some advice as this process was too costly for us ( Buy Insurance in Canada, medical exame for my family member), prepare everything again would not be a good option.

Thanks a lot !

CIC will not extend the super visa your parents have been granted to 10 years if you provide a new passport. If you wish your parents to stay longer, then should apply for a new super visa once their five year visa is close to expiring.

Now she only got 5 years grant ( from now to 2020) :-[

We really want to get 10 years visa ( which end in 2024), that why I urge her to get a new passport this week.

So you mean she doesn't need to re-apply, just need to show her old passport ( when we reach 2020 ) and request the remaining 5 year Super Visa ( from 2020 to 2024) to be stamped ?

Do we need to ask Canada Consulate to provide us with some documents to guarantee she will receive the remaining 5 years ?

Thanks

No - that's not what I mean. She will need to reapply after the five years of her current visa passes.

FYI - Applying for a super visa doesn't guarantee that you will be approved for 10 years - even if your passport has 10 year validity. It's up to the visa officer how long a visa is granted. We've seen some people here only approved for 2 or 5 years even though their passport was valid for longer.

She just got an explanation email from the Consulate

"...In your case, your visa validity is limited by the validity of your passport. Visas are never issued for a validity longer than the holder’s passport... "

Hence, should she reapply again ( just pay the application fee) before the end of this year 2014 with her new passport while other support documents still valid ( my income, her insurance, etc...) ?

I appreciate if anyone could share similar successful stories.

Thanks,
