I have a Post-Graduate-Work-Permit that is valid until March 2026. My passport expires February 2025 and I have to update my last name on it due to marriage. I am eligible to apply for the Express Entry Canadian Experience Class pool starting September 2024. It takes up to 12 weeks to process the passport and then it says the processing time is 99 days for the PGWP update.
As I understand I will need a valid passport for several points in the express entry period, and I will need to update my PGWP before February 2025 (and will have maintained status after February 2025 if the processing time takes longer than that).
I wanted to travel to see family in December but am not sure if that is possible.
What is the best thing for me to do in this situation?
If I send in my passport now, get it back in roughly September, and then apply to update/change my PGWP, will I still be able to apply to enter the Express Entry pool while under maintained/implied status while my updated PGWP is processing?
