Passport expiration issue

We applied for FSW and just received passport request but my wife's passport (the principal applicant) will be expired just 3 months after the visa validity date. Should we renew my wife's passport before sending it to the embassy? Is it ok for the passport to have a different number than the one in the application form? Thanks in advance.

For passport submission 6 months validity is required it is also mentioned in PPR mail.
You have to renew but PPR validity is for 30 days only.
