Passport demand Plz advice

I applied for PR(Skilled Worker) from India in 2001.These days I am in US on H1B working as software Engineer.A few months back I sent CHC, New Delhi my current job status and info related to my H1B as well. Then CHC asked me to send FBI clearance for me & my Wife which I have sent. Now I got a letter from CHC and they are asking to send my passport to CHC,New Delhi so that they can stamp visa on it.My question is Since I am in US these days is it OK to send passport to India while I am staying back in US ? Can I ask CHC to transfer my case to US for further processing ? Plz advice time is runningout..Thanx..

is it possible for you to get the visas in person? I guess you will have the visas same day delivery, when I was asked to send mine I did it in person and I got the passports stamped the same day.

by the way, is it legal to send passports overseas (new delhi)?

1. It is not legal to send passports by mail/courier in or out of India.
2. They will not transfer the file. You will have to figure out a way to get your passports to Delhi and back.

Thanx for your reply..
I cant send my Passport thru courier or by anyother means while staying back in US. It is my identity of being Indian in US and it can put me into further legalities with US authorities. So plz tell me what are the alernative to get visa since due to my professional commitment I can travel to India before march2008.

The best option would be for you to take copies of your passport and the letter from CHC -N.D. And pack your wife off to India with your passports for stamping. If you cannot travel. Or better still you travel yourself. Do not ask for a transfer to the US, it will only delay proceedings....All the Best!

i totally agree with mikkieligen. if u ask for your file to be transfered to US, it will delay further.

u just find a way of sending your visa to New Delhi.
