Lots of people say that for the citizenship procedure, they have "passed the interview". How do you know that you have passed the interview. Do they give you a score saying you passed the interview or you failed it for some reason? I am not talking about the exam.

Re: Passed the interview? How to know

Hi there,

Most of the times the CIC officer will inform you at the end of the interview about next steps. If they tell you that you can expect oath letter in few weeks, this is one indication that they are happy with what you have provided them so far. Again this is something you have to experience first hand as the body language of the cic officer and the way you have communicated with them has an impact on this. For example if the officer says we will inform you about our decision via a letter, this might mean he/she is unhappy with the interview and going to refer your case to the judge.

Another way to find out about this is by calling cic call centre. Give it a week or so after your interview and then call the call centre inquiring about your case. They will tell you what the next steps are. If they say you can expect oath letter some time soon, you are good. If they also give you the info that decision will be mailed to you, you are in hot waters.

hope this helps.

Re: Passed the interview? How to know

passing the interview is a much broader term,
CO who calls you after your exam will tell you if you have satisfactory answered all their questions or not.
if they have any other doubts about your applications or not
they also mentions if you will wait for your oath letter or you will have to hear from a judge or not.

in any given scenarios if they do not mention to your about waiting for oath invite you must consider that there must be something wrong with your application - missing info / getting slapped with RQ / fingerprint / entry records /something is missing and you will wait for next step of action .

my CO told me withing one to three month of time you will get oath letter - everything else seems fine :)

i would consider this is as passing an interview because neither English nor my documents and/exam had anything wrong at all .

so I assume if they say that I will "hear from them in three months." then that is not good. there was no mention of oath letter

Re: Passed the interview? How to know

I am not sure how can we interpret their answers! In my case in the end of the interview he mentioned that " they are not handing out oath letter right away within our gruop 4-6pm schudle similar to the grip of people before us 2-4pm therefore I should expect the oath letter between 4-6 max 8! The interview wast t too easy the office had check with the supervisor to clarify something that I was telling him and the supervisor mentioned to him that we are good! So far 7 weeks went by nothing happened!

Re: Passed the interview? How to know

I think you only know you passed the interview when you get the Oath letter in the mail. There were report of people having been told after the interview "everything is fine"..." nothing to worry about".... and the officer looked happy bla bla and next thing the got was a RQ in their mail box.

Hi Goldline
I completely agree with you, once you got the Oath invitation letter, then you can say it was ok, otherwise nothing is garantee

The only conclusive proof of passing the interview (as opposed to the written test where CIC are now obligated to tell you the result) is being invited to the Oath ceremony. Some applicants are lucky to get an oath letter on the same date of the interview/ test. Others know before as they have a interview/test invite letter and a separate oath invite letter for the same date the latter subject to passing the former and usually in an afternoon slot. Montreal was well known for this process.

Thanks That's what I thought. I thought from many of the posts that the officer would tell you congratulations you passed the interview and gives you a high five....

After reading the following case, I would say you're not really done till you make sure the Canadian passport is in your pocket. Even an invitation to oath doesn't mean it's over.
enjoy ;D
http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/rq-after-getting-invitation-letter-to-take-oath-mississauga-t144956.0.html

I wrote the exam in the Mississauga office in March 2013. Was told after the exam that I have cleared the exam along with the score and gave me the invitation letter to take Oath on the very next week itself. I had a planned vacation the next week for couple of weeks (Out of Country) and told the officer that I would like to take the oath after I am back from the vacation. The officer initially suggested to take Oath and don't apply for passport and you can come back after the vacation and apply it. Then the officer discussed my case with another officer and said I might have a problem while returning back to Canada as I have to surrender the PR during the Oath.

The officer later said he will make a note on my arrival date and will send a new invitation letter through mail after I have come back from the vacation and took back the given invitation letter. I came back very happy.

The very next day Mississauga office has send me a letter requesting for an RQ.(Received couple of days before my vacation) Totally surprised.
