Partner has work visa, will his Medicare extend to me if we marry?

Hi there!

My partner has been working in Canada since March of 2010 and I came to join him in April 2011. We are both from the UK and I am here on a tourist visa. At the moment I am using long term travel insurance to cover any medical issues arising (I don't have any long term health issues). We are thinking of going to Vegas early next year to get married (yay!) and I was just wondering if his Medicare would extend to cover me once I am his spouse, or if I will need to continue with the travel insurance (which might get difficult to renew indefinitely).

Any help much appreciated.

Thank you!

Steph

If he has private health coverage (extended health through private insurer) he could add you as his spouse to that plan. But not provincial healthcare.

It really depends on the insurance company. My company, for instance, will not cover your spouse unless she/he has provincial health plan. But it is worth a try:)
