Part time study -does it require a study permit

I read somewhere that part time study doesn't require a study permit. Is this true? Or is it more that you just wouldn't get a study permit for a part time course?

You do not require a study permit for any course or studies less than 6 months in duration. In order to apply for a SP you have to be enrolled full time in a study program that is over 6 months in length

You would still need a study permit for part-time studies.

You do not need a study permit if you plan to take a course or program which lasts six months or less, full-time or part-time.
