Not true at tall as long as your study permit does not have any off campus work restrictions anyone can work upto 20 hours a week from the day they start full time classes. On a scheduled break they can work full time.
Make sure you apply for a SIN from a Service Canada location as soon as you arrive as you will need that to show the employer to start any work. If you ensure you can show you have a valid status in Canada a SIN will be issued straight away while you wait, sometimes even possible to apply at a Service Canada desk on arrival at the airport.
