Hello members,

I'm on a work permit in Canada and since my parents cannot visit us due to the travel ban, I was thinking to go to my home country and bring them along with me. My reason is since I'm allowed to enter Canada, family members should be allowed too. Has anyone tried this or has any other information about this? We all are fully vaccinated.

The rules are the same regardless of whether you travel with them or they travel alone. Your parents need authorization from IRCC in order to be able to board the plane and come to Canada at this time. They will be refused boarding without authorization (even if you are with them). Follow the instructions here to request authorization:

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/visitors/immediate-family.html#temporary

Alternatively you can wait for the travel restrictions to lift.

Thanks, I understand. Related question: what if they drive from US to Canada and cross the border by land? It looks like they don't need to get approval letter from IRCC to cross but a determination will be made at the port of entry. But my question is: how to prove that they are entering for a non-optional reason to that officer at the border? My mother went through breast cancer surgery, and I would like for her to be here so that I can take care of her and help her with recovery. I would be eligible for PR in October, if that helps.

Yes, if they drive from the US then they don't need authorization.

Yes, they will need to demonstrate their travel is non-discretionary. I don't know if wanting to take care of your mother will be regarded as a non-discretionary reason for travel.

The fact you are eligible for PR in October doesn't factor into this one way or the other.

If you've had surgery remaining close to your doctors is important or at least somewhere where you have medical coverage.

That's right. I will try to get that approval. I really wish things normalize soon and visitors can enter without these approvals and all you know!

Don't think that is going to happen for a while although vaccinated US citizens are likely going to be the first allowed to travel.
