Hi,

I'm applying study permit for my 10 years old as a minor. We currently live in the US (we are non-US citizen).
Assuming my child would get the study permit soon, I understand he would be exempt from the travel restriction. However what about my self and my wife as parents? Our plan is both of us will accompany my child to study in Canada. Are we also exempt because my child is?

I called the boarder information service. They asked alot questions and finally said that it depends on the border customs officer.

Has anyone with similar situation successfully entered Canada? I wanted to make sure before travel so that we won't travel all the way up and get denial and return.
Edit: My wife and I have visitor visa.

Unfortunately there is no provision for you to accompany your child to Canada on a study permit.

On what basis were you planning on entering Canada? As visitors on a TRV? If so, you would be classified as non-essential and should expect that you will not be able to enter the country at this time.

EDIT: Just to add, you would only be exempt if you had an immediate family member who was a Canadian citizen or PR. Since your child is only coming on a study permit, you unfortunately don't qualify for the exemption and your reasons for travel will be classified as non-essential.

You also haven’t received a study permit for your minor child. 10 year olds are not the typical study permit applicant given that they usually need parental support which is often not possible with study permits.
