hello.

I left the country when I was on parental leave for about 5 months, anyway I was clearly told that I could leave the country on parental leave and still get paid the only mistake I made was not informing them, my question is will that affect my citizenship application since I didn't inform them and left the country and received EI.

Thanks.

U said u received EI. ..and in start u said u were on parental leave...its 2 different. ..categories...u cannot leave country on EI...u have to report every 2 weeks to Service Canada...etc...that u available for work.still looking for work...and available for work...while in Parental leave u could leave the country but inform the service canada...is good thing...but i dont think u have trouble from.service canada..but....for citizenship u have to calculate days outside the country u spend during that time.

Thank you gogia for the reply,

Just to make you clear and get a good response , I received EI Maternity and parental benefits.

I left the country and was receiving EI under parental benefits which is ok but the mistake I did was I didn't realise that I had to inform them

SO now the question is will that effect my citizenship application.

(Received EI under maternity and parental category.

With EI all i know u cant leave country...but u said...EI...under parental...leave...its really technical point....u mentioned here...may be some one can explain.better...

But for citizenship all u have to make sure. ..ur days outside the country. ..must be minus..when u calculate totals days to qualify...
I dont think any problem...cic...but u could be nailed by service canada...and u have to return that money u collect period u was out of country...with interest and penalty back to service canada.

Maternity leave is a special category of the employment insurance benefits , you don't have to report anything even if your in or outside Canada, the only thing you need to report to them is the day that you go back to work , that's it
