Parent sponsorship- Medical coverage

I'm looking in to sponsoring my retired 78 year old mother.

She takes medication for pre-existing medical conditions, high cholesterol (heart attack in '92) and rheumatoid arthritis.

Would these stop her sponsorship?

Would the cost of her medication be covered by the state or would she have to purchase medical coverage from a Canadian insurer (as with the Supervisa).

My wife(Canadian citizen) and I have worked full time since relocating from England to Vancouver in 2011.

The high cholesteral won't be a problem. The arthritis might be depending on the severity. The heart attack could be - but it happened a while ago so that's good. It's impossible for us to say for certain whether these conditions in combination might create issues for her application - you'll only find out once the medical is complete.

Prescription medications are not covered as part of most provincial health care coverage plans - although there are some discounts / coverage available to seniors.

I assume you're aware that processing times for parent applications are currently 4+ years and that CIC only accepts 5,000 applications per year. Your application will need to reach the CIC offices on the first business day of January if you want it to be accepted. This year the 5,000 application cap was reached in a day and a half.
