Hi,

Like many in this forum, I would like to sponsor my mother(widow) in Canada, I've a question which is confusing me, I hope someone senior in this forum would gladly answer me.

1- I was in Canada in 2009 started work on work permit from Sep-2010 (got NOA just for 4 months obviously not meeting LICO but on the same year I got married in sep-2010 and my wife is already here (Canadian Citizen) and working from 2007, can we both combine our NOA of 2010 to show the net income?

2- at 2011 our money situation got better than 2010 though better NOA (I was still on Work Permit)
3- 2012 got a child, she's on met leaves (she was on EI hence not a good NOA) (I was still on Work Permit)
4- 2013 received my PR and got better job now both work full times, but will file tax after next month to get NOA I guess this doesn't matter?

Now depending on my situation, is it possible if we both co-sign the application for my mother to sponsor her? If we do we meet the LICO figure.

Please suggest, what to do?

Thanks,
Nadeem

If you meet LICO ( with wife co-signed ) then yes but you do know its only 5K and each passing day the chance goes down as some of us feel it might have been full by now

Yes as long as your combined incomes meet the LICO+30%, you can sponsor (assuming 5K cap is still open. It's a good chance the limit has already been reached). Only NOAs for 2010, 2011 and 2012 matter. 2013 is irrelevant at this point.

Did your combined income in 2012 while she was on mat leave, meet the minimum? You can include EI payments for mat leave in the income calculation.

Hi,

Thanks,

but how do I include the EI payments to show our net salary of 2012? I know she was getting around 55% of her total pay on mat leaves, any suggestion?

I don't quite understand your question. Your 2012 tax return should clearly show the total amount of EI that she received while on mat leave.
