Hi there,

Not really sure how we made this mistake but when we sent our application we accidentally paid the wrong fees - in a way that resulted in us overpaying :/

We selected on the payment screen:
- Sponsorship Application ($75)
- Spouse or Common-law Partner ($550)
- Right of Permanent Residence Fee ($490)

And we've now realised that we should have paid the "Principal Applicant ($450 475)" instead of the common-law one. Oops. Oops indeed.

I've seen on the CIC website that overpayments are refunded, so I'm not too concerned - what I am slightly worried about though, is that they may return the application as technically our payment, when we selected it, was for the *wrong* thing.

The way I see it is that they will either:
1) See that we paid too much in error by selecting the wrong option, process the application and refund the excess or
2) See that we paid too much in error, return the application in order for us to repay using the correct options

Which seems more likely?

Thanks, and sorry if I seem to be panicking!

*edit to correct amount*

How much you paid altogether?

Overpayment will come back and application will proceed as normal. So you can relax.

Only thing is that I think fees are 75 + 475 (not 450) + 490 = $1040. You overpaid only by $75..nbd.

I think the most likely scenario is that they will refund the entire spouse & common law fee and then send a request asking you to pay the principal applicant fee, which will cause a delay in processing your application. In any event I can't see them rejecting it though.

In your shoes, and assuming you can afford it, I would pay the $450 now and wait for the $515 refund.

Per the post below, CIC will just refund the amount overpaid

I did the same thing in December, I overpaid by $60.
I received an email from CIC the same day I got AOR, they emailed me to say they were refunding me the $60. Then they allocated the $1040 to the right payment option and that was all. It didn't affect anything, and minutes after that email, I had the email with AOR.
So it is no big deal, and I received the refund pretty quick after that.

Thank goodness! There was me worrying about nothing. Now to hope there's nothing else I messed up and keep my fingers crossed for AOR sometime soon!

Cheers for all of the replies folks!
