OWP request required for in-land implied status?

I've poked at this topic a few times within the last months but I've received a mixture of answers. I guess it's time to make the question officially in it's own thread.

I did not send out an Open Work Permit request with my in-land spousal sponsorship application.

I wish to know if I need to submit an Open Work Permit request in order to receive implied status or if it is simply the spousal sponsorship permanent residency application being submitted and received by immigration responsible for providing me with implied status.

I would greatly appreciate input on this matter.

The OWP has nothing to do with implied status. If you submitted your PR app before your previous permit expired, you have implied status until a decision is made on the PR app but you cannot leave Canada at all during the process.
