I finally received my OWP today. (I submitted my application in October of 2014 for Perm Res under Family Class Sponsorship.) I am excited, but, they've listed conditions on my OWP that means I can't work as a teacher (I'm a MA English teacher from USA). Very disheartening. But, the more research I've done, the more I think it's primarily because I haven't submitted my medical exam yet. So, my questions, if anyone knows, are:

1. Can I get my conditions lifted by simply getting a medical exam? Who would I send the results to? Or would I have to submit another work permit application including this info.

2. Now that I have an OWP, can I get OHIP?

I know it's a long shot, but I've tried calling the CIC at various times and they won't even let me wait in the queue for a representative. Sigh.

Thanks!!

You do need to take a medical to get these conditions lifted. You must use one of the designated medical practitioners listed on the CIC web site. Once your medical is completed and has been uploaded, it will take a few weeks to process (around 3 weeks, I believe?). I believe the fastest way to then get the conditions lifted would then be to flagpole as a US/Canada land border (after the three weeks have passed). Hopefully someone else will confirm.

Depending on what level of students you wish to teach, you may also have to look into having your education certified and being licensed to teach in Canada. The process is typically province specific.
