OWP for US Citizen - Queries

I've asked this question in the TFW threads, but have a few follow ups - perhaps the folk on this side can help?

I'm a New Zealand citizen living in Toronto on a Temporary Work Permit valid until May 2013.
My partner is a US citizen living in Michigan.
We intend to marry next month, after which he's going to apply for an OWP at Windsor to join me living in Canada.
It may (or may not) be important to note that while we've been together 2 years, we haven't lived together as I've been in NZ/Canada while he's remained in the USA.

I've been told that this will be very straightforward for us, and that we will not need to provide proof of our relationship other than to produce our Marriage Certificate.

On this basis, I have the following queries:

1) Will he require a medical prior to applying for his OWP?
2) Is he required to show proof of funds at all?
3) Is he likely to be quizzed regarding his ties to the USA, and/or my ties to NZ?

Our plan is to live in Canada for the duration of my work permit, after which we'll return to NZ and he'll be applying for PR.
Neither of us have any intention of applying for PR in Canada.

Are there any hurdles we should anticipate?

Thanks guys. :D

Your partner can not apply for an OWP, that is only available to people who do an inland PR application after 1st stage approval. If you can afford it. If you have no intention on applying for PR in Canada, the only way you are really going to be able to live together and both be employed is to find an employer that will do a LMO (labour market opinion) and get a work visa for your partner, or they can apply through the FSW but again that is a long process....

And I do believe but am not 100% positive that no matter how you come to Canada whether it be on a work permit or PR you have to have a medical done....

Good Luck

This isn't true. OWP permits are available to spouses of skilled TFW (skill level 0, A or B).

1. Not unless he plans to work in a job that requires one (health care, child care, etc.)
2. Not likely but wouldn't hurt to have a couple of recent bank statements with him. He should also have a copy of YOUR WP with him. You should really enter together if possible.
3. Possibly but that's where you can state your intention of leaving Canada after your WP expires and moving permanently to NZ.
