Hi I've been married for 17 yrs to a Canadian citizen and am primary caregiver to our kids who are also citizens . We have our Outland spousal app in but haven't heard back about stage one yet . I need to leave for a few weeks but am out of status for a couple of years . I applied for an eta and was approved . Anybody know what will happen at the port of entry when I return from my trip home? Will they let me back in ?

Most probably not. You have proven to not be trustworthy, so a refusal would be the most likely outcome.

Thanks jalex for your reply . I'm kind of hoping because my eta was approved and my husband and kids are citizens ,plus my Outland app has been sent in that this will sway the border officer Has anybody had any experience with this ?

I am 100% sure that if you overstayed means breach of visa terms. it will really make mess with your
future application towards canada.(I am not making scare you but as per my knowledge immigration department
taking very serious of overstaying) good luck. i may b wrong but try my best to explain the future scenario.

Canada believes that you are out of the country and that is why an eTA was issued. When you come back, the "exit date" will flash in the CBSA officer screen.

Playing the "I have kids" card annoys a lot CBSA officers as you are trying to use them as an excuse, where you were expected to follow tightly the rules exactly to avoid this scenario.

Good luck.
