We are from Brazil, and my mom overstayed her tourist visa, for over 5 years (not smart, but it happened), but came back to Brazil without any deportation letter, no problems with the police - she came out of free will (this was over 6 years ago). She wants to visit a very close friend now, and we were wondering how that should be put on the visa application - if it even should be put. She has opened her own company, has money etc. What to do in this case? Will they deny the visa no matter what?

If this had happened 20 years ago, maybe, she could try to apply.... But she overstayed for 5 years 6 years ago, which is still quite recent, I'm not so sure this will be approved at all.
Yes, they will find this out if she tries to apply now and even if she doesn't mention it.

Not writing it down could be taken as misrepresentation and could result in a ban from Canada.
