Hi,

I'm a newbie in some need of help/reassurance, so please be gentle. My situation is this: My partner has successfully received a Letter of Introduction as a participant on the IEC scheme (UK), and this was granted some two months past. Sadly, being an old biddy of some 30+ years standing, I was unable to apply for this scheme (although I did do it, after graduation, way back when (late 90s) when it was available for one year only (boo!)). However in this instance I applied for an open work visa more in hope than in expectation (and after reviewing the literature, even the little hope I had was seemingly misguided), and I notified the High Commission in London of my partner's successful application and our common-law status (I meet all criteria for the IEC except age, and I want my extra year owed from before… :p). I thought, what the hell, and if it fails, there's always New Zealand… This was 7 weeks ago. I have had, this week, two missed phone calls (I always misplace my mobile and I am away from home for a couple of weeks) from the High Commission. The message on the end of the number when I called it back asks for a contact number for a Commission staffer, which, of course, I do not have, as no messages were left and I have had no e-mails (I've checked all spam boxes ). Now, would they ring to tell me I have wasted $150 on a pipe dream (or a plucky attempt, as I prefer it), or are they after perceived missing information (I was very thorough in the application, even though the instruction is oft opaque) or a medical? Has anyone else found themselves in a similar situation? I have had no acknowledgment of receipt, but I can only assume (as one must) that the application has arrived and, presumably, only just started being processed.

Thanks in advance,

Curlew.
